Economic Inequality and Envy

Economic inequality is often seen as a major problem in modern American society. In a world where voluntary exchanges dominate economic activity, such concern is misplaced and leads to envy. We ought not accept standard criticisms of inequality and should instead celebrate positive sum activity among participants in the modern economy. There are specific issues, like crony capitalism, that can lead to inequality, but those should be dealt with directly rather than through a general condemnation of inequality.
