What is the greatest Catholic movie? Two answers often given are "A Man for All Seasons" about St. Thomas More, and "The Mission", about a Jesuit mission in South America. Both screenplays were written by Robert Bolt. Bolt's two movies explore the conflict between crown and conscience, the state and religious freedom. They also highlight the challenge of prudence for those who have responsibility for the common good. The films also provide contesting answers to the question of how to respond to evil.
