Catholic Social Teaching and Economics: The Science of Human Freedom

Economics is not about money. It's better understood as the science of human choice and human freedom. That provides an area of fruitful reflection for Catholic social teaching, which is the discipline of moral theology—how should we act freely?—and addresses the question of how free societies ought to organize themselves. Freedom is the ground on which Catholic moral reflection and economics questions come into conversation with each other.
