Stefana Dan Laing, Ph.D. joined the faculty of Beeson Divinity School in 2018 as assistant professor of divinity and theological librarian, where she teaches in the area of spiritual formation. Laing’s primary area of research is Patristics, and she is the author of Retrieving History: Memory and Identity Formation in the Early Church (Baker, 2017). Prior to coming to Beeson Divinity School, Laing served as theological librarian at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary’s J. Dalton Havard School for Theological Studies in Houston, and taught courses in Christian spirituality, history and doctrine at Houston Graduate School of Theology and Houston Baptist University. She has researched, published and presented in the areas of historiography, early Christian biographies, spiritual direction, and martyrdom, and has contributed to books such as Worship, Tradition, and Engagement (Pickwick, 2018), Eschatology: Biblical, Historical, and Practical Approaches (Kregel, 2016), Evangelical America (ABC-CLIO, 2017), and Mounce’s Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words (Zondervan, 2006). Further interests include discipleship in the early church, Christian funereal practices, and late antique beliefs about the afterlife.
