Dr. John Pinheiro is professor of history and the founding director of Catholic Studies at Aquinas College. He holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Pinheiro co-edited volume 12 of the Presidential Series of the Papers of George Washington and is the author of articles on the early American republic in academic journals as well as the book, Manifest Ambition: James K. Polk and Civil-Military Relations during the Mexican War. Dr. Pinheiro's new book, Missionaries of Republicanism: A Religious History of the Mexican-American War, published by Oxford University Press, won the 2015 Fr. Paul J. Foik Award from the Texas Catholic Historical Society for the year's best book on the Catholic history of the American Southwest.
